Preciosa-Platanares WLR mangrove exploration.
Preciosa Platanares Wild Life Refuge, Puerto Jiménez, Península de Osa

 

 

 

The mangroves are small forest with plants and animals adapted to live in this immerge and brackish environment, influenced by the tides, this wonderful forest will be explore in the first part of the trip. The second part of the trip, while paddling we may see dolphins, sea turtles fish and ocean birds.


This is a guided tour through the Preciosa Platanares Wild Life Refuge, the mangrove is both relaxing and amazing. You will learn about the ecosystem while paddling through the bird’s habitat, find coatis, ant eaters and monkeys hiding in the canopy.

The trip is guided by an experienced local guide who will briefly interrupt the peace and wild silence with explanations of the interrelationships that exist here between plants and animals at different levels. You may see any of the hundreds of species of fish and wildlife which inhabit the Platanares River.

Immerse yourself in indescribable wild and silent beauty, where nature reveals its life.

Your mangrove kayak tour leaves one or two hours before high tide. This trip explores the mangrove estuaries near of Platanares River in the the Preciosa Platanares Wild Life Refuge. Your knowledgeable guide will lead you up and down a river under the canopy of 70-foot tall mangrove trees. Learn about the mangroves and look for all types of wildlife -- monkeys, raccoons, iguanas, Jesus Christ lizards, crabs, crocodiles, caimans, snakes, all types of birds, butterflies!


The natural canals lead you on a ride through and unforgettable learning experience! and then we will use a short cut to go to the Golfo Dulce revealing two atmosphere, mangrove forest kayaking and sea kayaking…

 

 

…We have a snack after swimming in the nicest beach on the Osa Peninsula. (see the tour map below)

The trip takes 3-4 hours, and we supply dry bags (for all your gear, even cameras and video gear), snacks (tropical seasonal fruits), Kayak with back rest for comfort and dual blade paddle, life jacket , instructions before the trip and a knowledgeable guide. No previous experience required.

Suggestions on what to bring:


Bathing suit, sunscreen, long pants and log sleeve shirt, tennis shoes or sandals with straps, light rain jacket, neck strap to secure glasses, hat, dry clothing, towel, plastic bags for wet clothing, disposable waterproof camera.
Don’t forget to bring a bottle for water, we provide water to refill your personal recipient, but not the plastic bottle, this to reduce the use of disposable plastic bottles.

Special Features:

The mangroves are intense environments where life shows in many different ways. Often monkeys are hanging around, many birds nest and feed in the mangroves. Is a good option for families and nature lovers.
To lower the impact in the mangrove forest we take groups max. 8 pax in single kayaks, bigger groups should go in double kayaks.
Every client must follow the security rules for the adventure.
Children under 12 years old will go in a double kayak with an adult.
Is imperative that any minor coming to our adventures has to be accompanied by an adult responsible.
Every client should bring a recipient for water and sun protection.
