Luna Lodge ...in the heard of the Rain Forest ...rain forest, river and sea |
Have
you ever visited a place so enchanting, so fascinating, so alive that no
matter where you go in your life, or what you do from that point on, the
memory of that particular journey and its adventures remain indelibly
fixed in your mind? Maybe you are sitting in your office, or mowing your
lawn, or sun-bathing on a beach back home, when all of a sudden that
same feeling or energy of that place gently descends upon you out of the
blue, and you find yourself drifting back into those recollections and
reliving them as if it had happened just yesterday. Well, beware! This
is one of the lasting side-effects of a visit to Luna Lodge, a secluded
rainforest lodge set in the pristine and captivating Osa Peninsula near
Corcovado National Park in southwestern Costa Rica. Luna Lodge is truly
a unique experience not found elsewhere in Costa Rica or the world! Luna Lodge was constructed by Costa Rican people with the issues of conservation and preservation of the rainforest a priority. The lodge has been developed with creative initiative and commitment to the ideals of educating visitors to be environmentally and culturally sensitive. |

Lana,
Esteban and theme staff have created a wonderful blend of natural landscaping and
organic agricultural abundance surrounding the lodge. Counted among the
fruit trees are mango, water apple, papaya, banana, china fruit, mandarin
orange, lemon, cacao, avocado, and cashew. The pleasant, intoxicating
aromas of ylang-ylang, frangipani, and night-blooming jasmine permeate the
grounds. She also grows her own bananas, plantains, and pineapples. And
what meal would be complete without herbs and spices? She has hot and
sweet chilies, turmeric, oregano, basil, mustard, ginger, cilantro, and
many more.
The centerpiece of Luna Lodge is the massive, traditionally constructed rancho, housing the restaurant, bar, office, kitchen, and a small gift shop. The rancho was built using tropical hardwood trees naturally fallen on the property, white cane from the rivers, and palm fronds grown right on the peninsula. The dimensions of the structure reflect those of the surrounding rainforest, with a towering roof of thatched palm fronds soaring 25 feet over one of the largest ranchos on the Osa Peninsula. The wooden deck in the front of the rancho is ideal for morning yoga, nature observation, star gazing, or just absorbing the essence of the rainforest The restaurant, “El Eclipse Total”, is open all day and features international cuisine and a Sunday Brunch. The dining area is open and spacious, affording comfort for dozens of guests. There's even space for an occasional rainforest dance! The gift shop, “La Puertecita”, offers T-shirts, hats, writing paper, and souvenirs, but also carries necessary items such as toothpaste, film, sunblock, bug spray, flashlights, batteries, and other sundries. All you will need for your rainforest adventures and creature comforts can be found right here at the lodge. Our guest, you will dine on inventive cuisine and exotic native dishes, homemade breads, organic fruits and veggies, and scrumptious salads, accompanied with natural juices, sodas, or your favorite tropical libations. Everything at the lodge is prepared fresh and naturally each day, and will energize you to launch your rainforest experiences. With the rat race left behind and the jewels of the Earth at your doorstep, you will remember Luna Lodge as one of the most rewarding and invigorating vacations of your entire life. |
The
Bungalows
Amid tropical rainforest
sits seven comfortable, cool, spacious, thatched roof bungalows. The large windows and high
thatched-palm roof provide for ample air circulation, while the walls of
white cane add a decorative rustic touch. Each Bungalow also has its own
private deck out front, also covered by the same palm roof for enjoyment
in any weather. Since we are located up above the Carate River Valley,
it is generally cooler and we almost always have a light breeze thus we
barely have any insects. The environment is very pleasant. |
|
|
Whether coming by car, taxi, jeep, horseback, or by foot, when you arrive in Carate continue up the road, it will look like you are going in the river, and you are, but the river is usually dry or easy to pass. Luna Lodge will hopefully know when your estimated arrival time is, but if not, please just come on up because we are always open and waiting with a smile!
