Kobo is a self-maintained ecological farm where you can met, not only its productive activities but as well participate in them, inmersed in the vastness of the tropical forest.
It is located in the costarrican south pacific, anchored in the Osa peninsula (Province of Puntarenas), a worldwide reconogized zone for having one of the most impressive collections of flora and fauna.
The farm has an extension of 50 hectareas (123.4 acres), which 30 hectareas (74 acres) are primary forest and areas in a process of regeneration. Also, It has more of 20 diferent cultivations, including tubercles, grains, vegetables and fruits; but the most priced and valuated cultivation is the Cocoa bean. From this wonderful cultivation we obtain the prime material, 100% pure cocoa, a fundamental product that is transformed in our wonderful chocolate, which we elaborate in a rustic way for enjoyment for our family, friends and visitors.
The idea of creating Kobo farm born about 3 years ago, we are 4 brothers that decided to take the challenge of creating an alternative farm, a model farm that inspires other people, as locals as foreingners, about how can be developed the concept of producing when conserving. In Kobo we produce the 80% of our food, which are produced with natural fertilizers that we produce here in the farm. Also, we make experiments with natural repellents and insecticides that we create from fruits and plants with the objective of controlling damaging insects and some diseases in our cultivations.
                 
  You can lodge on our warm and comfortable rooms located in the heart of a ecological farm. From the balconies you can enjoy a beautiful sight of our cultivations and the breathtaking vegetation of the Osa Peninsula.            
                               
                     
                       
     

The instalations is a lodge house of two floors, with capacity for twelve people. Six rooms, two shared bathrooms, a big lobby and zones for your comfort. Our speciality in the kitchen are the typical costarrican meals, prepared, in the majority, with the organic products harvested in the farm.   The agriculture for us is a very important component in the forest conservation, for such reason, we have taken the challenge of develop and create an more sustainable, alternative way to produce, looking for optional ways of fertilization, vermin control and diseases. At the moment we are experimenting with some organic fertilizers which are made in the farm, like the "bochaci", "lobricompost" (earthworm fertilizer) and compost; to improve the fertility of the soils. Also, we are experimenting with plants what have propieties for insect repelents, insecticides, fungi control, bacteria and foliar fertilizers. So far, we had success with some experiments, but other experiments are still under investigation. We actually count with twenty diferent cultivations, including: citruces, vegetables, fruits, tubercles, bananas (7 species), grains, coffee and out favorite cultive, the Cacao. We're always working to develop new cultivations in our farm.
    
       
                 
    Our main objective is to be self-sustained with organic products for the consumption of our family and visitors, but our biggest dream, is to convert into a model farm, a farm that inspirates other people that loves the agriculture and the conservation of the nature can see a clear example of how to produce conserving, helping to understand and maintaining those huge living labs, the so called tropical forests. This tour is focused to all those people that lives in big cities, full of technology and stress, for those who wants to disconnect from that busy life and connect to the rural living, with the humble living of some brothers that makes an effort every day to learn the complex but balanced natural ecosystem of our forests and apply the adquired knowlegdes in our productive activities. The tour allows us to show a part of our diary tasks in the Köbö farm, the early wake ups, the healthy breakfasts, to take care of our animals, harvest our plantations; all those activities that form part of our diary living in the countryside.
