CAÑA BLANCA LODGE

______________________________________________

Bahia Caña Blanca; 3 meals per day and transportation to and from Puerto Jimenez are included. 3 Night minimum stay.

One of the most remote areas of Costa Rica and is contiguous with Piedras Blancas National Park, the newest park in Costa Rica.

Rest and relax with the soporific sounds of the gentle surf after exploring this region with our resident naturalist guide on our 6 -1/2 miles of well-groomed trails going over the fila and into the park valleys.

A few of the mammals commonly seen here are white-faced capuchin & mantled howler monkeys, sloths, tamandua, tayra, agouti, coati and the kinkajou. The not so common are jaguar, jaguarundi, ocelot and margay; all are confirmed living here in the lowland forests along this side of the golfo.

Birding is excellent! Our bird list-over 400 species-is thorough and easy to use with the field guide, The Birds of Costa Rica by F. Gary Stiles and Alexander F. Skutch. The elusive and rare White-tipped Sicklebill has been seen while hiking above the waterfalls along the rocky creek beds.

Three gourmet meals are served daily; we serve our haute cuisine with a tropical flair. Fresh breads and cakes are made daily and served warm from the oven. All meals are prepared with fresh local foods, often from our own gardens. Fish is grilled, ceviched or "Tico Cioppino" is made only when the fish is caught within that day. Wine and beer are served at lunch and dinner (other times the cost is $1.50), a rum concoction is served with hor'dourves prior to dinner. Fresh fruit juices and sodas are always available.

Most tours at Caña Blanca are inclusive and can keep our guests busy for five to six days.

We have aqua terra kayaks for our guests to explore the tranquil waters along the coastline and snorkeling equipment for their use; visibility is to 60 feet. Swimming is safe. Our beach furniture used for "power lounging" was designed with comfort in mind and built from hardwoods here at Caña Blanca.

When the nights allow, we star gaze from the dug out canoe. Floating in the calm waters of the Golfo Dulce at night while viewing the confetti of stars is a beautiful way to end the day. Other magical nights are spent watching the glow of bioluminescense created from the motion of the fish and waves. Some of our more adventurous guests gather enough courage for a guided night hike! We offer tours away from Caña Blanca; Rio Esquinas River Tour - this pristine river and its estuaries border the new Piedras Blancas National Park.

The area offers a plethora of wildlife; monkeys, caiman, turtles, and the birds that roost along this waterway (7 species of parrots, rosette spoonbills, the great blue heron and the boat-billed heron are a few). The change of vegetation and ecosystems at each turn will create an unforgettable experience.

Casa Orcidias; a ride to the world famous gardens is a tour in itself. Travel the coastline while watching the rain forest drop to the sea. Chances are always good of having dolphins follow and play along side the boat! Sample tropical fruits that are in season, many of these never to be seen in your stores. Walk along winding paths with exotic palms, orchids, heliconius, and many other rare plants, even a cactus collection.
